Together, the meaning becomes “action space”, which can be interpreted as space for action and space in action. We are stardust living out the human experience; and as such, we often need a sacred container for right, selfless action to occur. This is the intention behind karmakasha - to radiate love, to hold a safe space for others, as well as to empower them to explore the depth and expanse of their being, so that they can live more fully in alignment with their soul’s divine purpose, dharma. It’s because of the akashic records, yoga and other ancient mysteries that I continue learning about my karma, which allows me to be present and act more skillfully in each moment. It is the culmination of my life’s work to date. An evolving organism that changes as I change, because let’s face it - change is inevitable. Karma - your collection of thoughts, feelings, emotions, actions, experiences across all lifetimes. Not just the residue of your past, but a call to action. How can you leverage your gifts and limitations in a dharmic way, which lifts up you AND others? Akasha - ether, spirit, sky - the basis and essence of all things in the material world. The energy of love that pervades, creates, and sustains everything in the universe. It’s the fifth element, from which the other four (earth, air, fire, water) spring forth and ultimately dissolve. The cosmic ocean of energy, vast and limitless, which moves with grace and contains all possibility. How can we reverse the energetic flow or direction of our efforts? One of my favorite classes in college was linguistics, and yet I couldn’t quite articulate why at the time. I simply found it fascinating. I now see that it was a building block, just one more star on my map with which to connect the lines and create my unique sky full of constellations. In Sanskrit, it’s common for words ending in a vowel and subsequently beginning with a vowel to merge together. This is called sandhi, and it’s common for most asana poses. For example, sava asana, or corpse pose, becomes savasana. You’ll notice, I have cheekily used this in naming my practice, karmakasha. The two K’s are nods to my initials, since my birth name is difficult for others to pronounce - it’s there in spirit!
